On being yourself

Liked this ever since I heard it on Step Up 3D. Although it sounds way more high pitched listening to it now (can anyone say oww?), the lyrics are rather nice.

Tears don't mean you're losing
Everybody's bruising
Just be true to who you are

Sense making Nonsense

This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

No, this is how it works

You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

The sacred space

When I was around 10, I knew a very cool 19 year old. She loved her music, and lived with us for a while. When she moved back abroad, she would keep in touch, and amongst the things she sent me would be mixed tapes.  I didn't think much of the songs then, but I used to miss her and listening to them was a way of reliving the memories.  And thus I was introduced to the great alternative artists of the 90s. To date they remain my favourites- Goo Goo Dolls, The Cranberries, Gin Blossoms, 10, 000 Maniacs, and of course The Dave Matthews Band. You can expect to see them mentioned a lot more times in the future, but for now I'll focus on this one. The lyrics are lovely, and more than that, they are universal.

To me, it can be applied to any relationship. When it's bad- it shows faith, patience, doubt, and a hint of desperation. And when it's good- it shows love, understanding, and respect. More than anything, it says, "There will always be something we won't understand about each other. But I love you, nevertheless".

And who hasn't experienced that?

The space between- Dave Matthews Band

You cannot quit me so quickly
Is no hope in you for me
No corner you could squeeze me
But I got all the time for you, love

The space between the tears we cry
Is the laughter keeps us coming back for more
The space between the wicked lies we tell
And hope to keep safe from the pain

But will I hold you again?

These fickle, fuddled words confuse me
Like, will it rain today?
Waste the hours with talking, talking
These twisted games we're playing

We're strange allies with warring hearts
What a wild-eyed beast you'll be
The space between the wicked lies we tell
And hope to keep safe from the pain

But will I hold you again?
Will I hold?

Look at us spinning out in the madness of a roller coaster
You know you went off like the Devil in a church
In the middle of a crowded room
All we can do, my love is hope we don't take this ship down

But the space between where you're smilin' high
Is where you'll find me if I get to go
The space between the bullets in our firefight
Is where I'll be hiding, waiting for you

The rain that falls splash in your heart
Ran like sadness down the window into your room
The space between our wicked lies
Is where we hope to keep safe from pain

Take my hand 'cause we're walking out of here
Oh, right out of here, love is all we need, dear

The space between what's wrong and right
Is where you'll find me hiding, waiting for you
The space between your heart and mine
Is the space we'll fill with time

The space between
The space between
